Early works underway on the new Mental Health Emergency Centre at Rockingham General Hospital
Construction is now underway on Rockingham General Hospital (RGH)’s new Mental Health Emergency Centre and Behavioural Assessment Unit, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of mental health services for the local community.
Early works include the installation of site fencing and underground works to prepare the site for the main building works.
The project will deliver an eight-bed Mental Health Emergency Centre and a two-bed Behavioural Assessment Unit, providing dedicated facilities to support people experiencing acute mental health concerns.
Once complete, the new service will provide additional mental health services for consumers across Perth's southern corridor, offering care in a purpose-built environment designed to meet the needs of patients, and a dedicated lower stimuli environment for consumers presenting to the RGH Emergency Department
Developed in consultation with consumers and clinicians, the facility will enhance the range of mental health services available at RGH and support better access to care closer to home and will offer short stays of up to 72 hours, allowing consumers to receive a thorough assessment and support to identify their needs and connect them with the services that can help.
For RGH Executive Director Dr Asheila Narang, the new facility is an important step in strengthening mental health care for the local community.
“The new facility will strengthen the mental health care available at Rockingham General Hospital, providing consumers with greater access to specialised, compassionate care in a dedicated environment,” Asheila said.
