Welcome to our newest graduate nurses and midwives
Rockingham General Hospital has welcomed a new group of nurses and midwives who will begin their careers through the Transition to Practice Program.
The cohort includes nine registered nurses, two midwives, and two enrolled nurses who will spend the next 12 months developing their professional skills in a structured and supportive environment.
The Transition to Practice Program supports newly qualified nurses and midwives as they transition from study into clinical practice. During the program, participants will complete two six-month clinical rotations, gaining hands-on experience and applying their theoretical knowledge with the support of clinical teams.
Nurse Educator Kate Marwood said the program provides graduates with valuable support during their first year of practice.
“The Transition to Practice Program gives participants the opportunity to consolidate and further develop the clinical skills they gained during their studies, with support and encouragement," she said.
The graduates were recruited through the competitive annual GradConnect (external site) process, coordinated by the Chief Nurse and Midwifery Office. This year saw a record number of applicants for the intake.
Several graduates are already familiar with the hospital, having completed their student placements onsite, and look forward to continuing to learn and build relationships with colleagues.
Director of Nursing and Midwifery Heather Pearce said the health service is proud to support early career nurses and midwives through the program.
"It’s fantastic to see these nursing and midwifery graduates choose our hospital to start their careers. We look forward to supporting them as they gain experience across our clinical areas and become valued members of our hospital team,” she said.
