Voluntary Patient Transport Service

For Rockingham General Hospital patients

Voluntary Patient Transport Service

The Voluntary Patient Transport Service provides transport to local residents with no other means of getting to or from appointments at Rockingham General Hospital.

Patients who meet the following criteria may use this free service:

  • are not independent with their own transport and are unable to use public transport
  • have no family or friends who can assist with transport
  • are unable to pay for a taxi
  • can get on and off the bus independently or using mobility aids (stick, frame, wheelchair) – patients requiring physical assistance to get on and off the bus must bring a carer
  • live in the following suburbs:
    • Baldivis 6171
    • Cooloongup 6168
    • Hillman 6168
    • Kwinana 6167
    • Port Kennedy 6172
    • Rockingham 6168
    • Secret Harbour 6173
    • Safety Bay 6169
    • Shoalwater 6169
    • Warnbro 6169
    • Waikiki 6169.

Bookings

Eligible patients with appointments between 8.30am and 1.30pm (to be finished by 2.30pm) can request transport by contacting the Transport office on 9599 4485 between 8.45am and 1.30pm.

Bookings should be made as early as possible – at least 48-hours’ notice is required.

If you require wheelchair transport, are travelling with frames/walkers or are bringing along a carer, please advise staff at time of booking.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel a booking notify the Transport Office on 9599 4485.

Conditions of travel

  • Please note priority is given to journeys to appointments. Return journeys are subject to the availability of the driver.
  • Be ready one hour before your appointment time to board the bus as quickly as possible. Drivers will not be able to wait if you are not ready.
  • Relatives and friends are not allowed to travel unless they are your carer and you made a request at the time of booking.
  • Drivers are unable to provide physical support to patients. If you require assistance with mobility, please bring your carer with you. This must be advised at time of booking.
  • All passengers must wear seat belts at all times.
  • Drivers are not permitted to make unauthorised stops on the way to your appointment or home.
  • If you use a wheelchair, it must be secured at four points while you travel
  • If you use a mobility scooter, please note you must transfer into a bus seat whilst travelling, and your equipment will be secured in the bus.
  • Do not leave any rubbish or personal items on the bus.
  • Please keep noise and talk to a minimum whilst travelling to allow drivers to concentrate.
  • Drivers are unable to take or cancel bookings or pass on messages.
  • No food or drink is to be consumed on the bus.
  • Wait for the driver to open the side door and follow driver’s directions when embarking and disembarking the vehicle.
