Intensive Care Unit
Our dedicated multidisciplinary team cares for critically ill patients suffering a wide variety of medical and surgical conditions. The ICU team includes a team of specialist intensivists (doctors who specialise in the care of critically ill patients) who work with doctors, nursing staff with specialised qualifications, and allied health specialists.
The unit features state-of-the-art technology to patients are treated with the highest standard of care.
Our services include 24-hour specialist medical and nursing care providing:
- specialised treatment for patients who require constant monitoring, intensive nursing care and complex life support including respiratory, cardiovascular and renal support
- support from nursing and medical staff, social workers, physiotherapists speech and language therapists, diabetic educator, pharmacists, radiographers and dietitians
- access to pastoral care, interpreting services, cultural services and personal support services.
Our ICU staff do all they can to keep family members and friends informed about their loved one’s condition, what treatments are being given and why. Where possible, they will talk with both the patient and family members about what treatment options are available. If there is anything you don’t understand or want to know more about, ask our ICU staff.
If you are concerned about the care being given to your loved one, speak first with our ICU staff.
If you still feel your concerns are not being addressed by the ICU staff after that conversation, ask to speak with the Rockingham General Hospital ICU nursing coordinator.

Phone the hospital switchboard on 9599 4000 and ask to be transferred to ICU.
The ICU is located at Ground floor, Block B, Rockingham General Hospital.
To enter the ICU, please ring the bell on the intercom. Our staff will check with the bedside nurse before letting you enter the unit.
