Thanks to support from the McGrath Foundation, cancer patients at Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) are now benefiting from supportive care and guidance from McGrath Cancer Nurse, Dinah Tegan.

As a registered nurse, Dinah plays a vital role for patients and their family with solid tumour through supportive care from the moment of diagnosis, right through every stage of their treatment journey.

A free service that does not require a doctor’s referral, Dinah helps patients, and their families navigate what can often be an overwhelming and emotional time.

She provides clinical, psychosocial and emotional support and information to reduce confusion and fear in their cancer journey.

She also advocates for patients’ needs and connects them with a wide range of services both at RGH and in the community.

She offers reliable, evidence-based information to help patients make informed decisions about their care.

“Fostering strong collaboration is essential to delivering excellent care,” said Dinah.

“It is all about working together to provide the best outcomes for our patients.

“My role is a valuable resource that staff are encouraged to be aware of and promote among their teams.”

Dinah collaborates closely with staff across RGH to strengthen relationships and ensure patients receive person - centred care.

Acting Executive Director of Rockingham Peel Group, Clive Mulroy, said the addition of a McGrath Cancer Nurse at RGH is a welcome boost to cancer care in the region.

“Dinah’s presence makes a meaningful difference for patients and their families,” Clive said.

“We’re proud to partner with the McGrath Foundation to offer this kind of personalised, supportive care.

“It is vital for helping our patients to feel informed, reassured and never alone in their journey.”

For more information, patients are encouraged to contact Rockingham General Hospital’s Integrated Cancer Service team.
