Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic referrals

The Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic (RACPC) is a clinical service which aims to provide patients with new onset of chest pain, suggestive of angina or patients with previously stable IHD with recent deterioration of symptoms, with direct and timely access to expertly assessment and investigation.

The clinic is designed to provide a safe and robust framework for patients to be referred to, following low risk presentations to the Emergency Department or General Practitioners (GP).

Please note patients with suspected Acute Coronary Syndrome should have inpatient cardiology review or attend Emergency Department.

Health professionals wanting to refer patients to the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic are to fill out a referral form (PDF 248KB).

Within two weeks of referral, patients receive specialist clinic review by our chest pain assessment nurse, with consultant cardiology support. Most investigations will be performed within two weeks of clinic review. Investigations may include:

  • exercise tolerance test (treadmill)
  • CT coronary angiograghy
  • myocardial perfusion scans
  • stress echocardiography
  • invasive coronary angiograghy.

A comprehensive management plan will be developed and communicated to the patient, primary care provider (GP ) and referring physicians.
