Purpose of notifications
The Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1911 (Part XIIIB) provides the legal basis for the constitution of the Perinatal and Infant Mortality Committee (PIMC) as a statutory requirement under the direction of the Chief Health Officer. The primary purpose of the Committee is educational.
The Perinatal and Infant Mortality Committee meets monthly to examine the causes of perinatal and infant mortality for all births in the WA population. The Committee also uses all notifications entered into the perinatal and infant mortality database to monitor the number of deaths and inform clinical practice and public health strategies.
The 16th Report of the Perinatal and Infant Mortality Committee of Western Australia, for births between 2014 and 2018 (PDF 1MB) is available.
There are dashboards available in support of the full report, providing a detailed look at risk factors of still birth and infant mortality: Dashboard - 16th Report of the Perinatal and Infant Mortality Committee.
