SMHS mental health services

Mental health careers helping people to live their best lives

SMHS mental health services

We offer a diverse range of services, both inpatient and community-based, across WA’s south metropolitan region, providing the opportunity for employees to work in a variety of settings with a range of patients.

Community adult and older adult services

These include mental health assessments, treatment, ongoing care planning, rehabilitation programs, intensive day therapy and early episode psychosis treatment. Recognising it is not just the patient that is impacted by the effects of mental illness, we also offer support and education for families and carers. This form of support also extends to general practitioners, community agencies and hospitals.

Inpatient adult and older adult services

These services focus on short-term inpatient treatment to people during an acute phase of mental illness.

Mother and Baby Mental Health Unit

We provide treatment for depression, anxiety, or psychosis in late pregnancy and during the postnatal period.;

Assessment unit

This unit focuses on providing a therapeutic environment for patients requiring short-term admission for stabilising and monitoring for up to 72 hours or an extended period.

Consultation liaison service

Through this service we support patients throughout the hospital environment that includes both the emergency department and rehabilitation services.

Youth Community Assessment and Treatment Team

This team works with youth aged 16 – 24 providing a focussed and client centric approach to recovery.

Tele-psychiatric services

A fundamental aspect to our service is recognising the importance of access for all our community to mental health treatment and support. This service is focused on providing this support to rural and remote areas that may not have easy access to help.;

Step Down / Step Up facilities

This program provides a vital service for people with mental health issues by supporting them in their own communities, close to personal support from family and friends.;

Aboriginal mental health liaison service

We provide counselling, group facilitation and advocacy of services to Aboriginal clients across the south metropolitan region.
