Move it May campaign
Move it May campaign
This campaign aims to decrease the incidence of deconditioning and raise awareness of falls prevention amongst consumers in hospital and residential aged care homes (RACHs).
Objectives
Increase
- older adults’ (admitted to hospital or living in RACHs) awareness about movement, its impact on deconditioning and its importance in preventing falls
- clinical staff awareness of the impact of hospital stays or living in RACHs on deconditioning and increased falls risk
- clinical staff ownership and accountability for consumer mobility and falls prevention in hospitals and RACHs
- clinical staff ability to raise consumer awareness of the importance of movement in preventing falls and engage consumers in increasing movement activities.
Key messages

- Increasing physical activity reduces deconditioning and likelihood of falls.
- Staff play an important role in promoting and encouraging consumer mobility and falls prevention.
- Discussions between staff and consumers about deconditioning and movement is key for staff to build confidence and consumers to increase awareness.
