We are shining a light on some of our incredible back-of-house Patient Support Services (PSS) staff at Rockingham Peel Group (RkPG). This month we meet patient support assistants (PSAs) Marijun Clarke and Charlotte Brick.

PSAs are an important patient-facing role who are involved in cleaning patient rooms, delivering food and beverages to patients, transporting patients for scans and tests, and running specimens, bloods and medications.

Marijun has being working as a PSA at Rockingham General Hospital for five years after coming from the aged care sector.

For Marijun, being a PSA is all about interacting with the patients and giving them the support. This is a long-term role for Marijun.

Asked what it’s like to work in a hospital with patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, Marijun said she feels safe.

“We have to make sure we wear proper personal protective equipment everywhere in the hospital,” Marijun said.

While Charlotte has worked at RGH for eight years in various food service roles, she has been in a PSA role for six years.

It’s a role Charlotte enjoys because she gets to assist the whole hospital and her job is different every day.

“Each day I come to work I could be in any area such as the labour ward, medical ward or aged cared rehabilitation unit. That’s why I love it so much,” Charlotte said.

“I love helping patients and making them smile but I also love working with my colleagues, it is such a great culture at RGH.”

RkPG are currently looking for PSAs to join the team. The PSA is a fantastic customer-focused role for bright, bubbly people who are empathetic and willing to go the extra mile to put a smile on someone’s face. No qualification is needed to be a PSA as on the job training is provided.

If you have a friend or family member that might be interested in applying for the RkPG Patient Support Assistant recruitment pool, they can visit the WA Health Jobs Board (external site) for more information.
